What is freelance work?
For me it's been the EASIEST and QUICKEST way to start earning online.
It's basically work you do over short periods at a time, although you can also find full time jobs.
How does it work?
People, businesses and even companies post projects and pay us freelancers to do them. These projects can be anything from article writing and research to programming and translating.
Is it legit/real?
Yes. A lot of people make a decent living just from freelance work.

Yes, as I said earlier a lot of people make a living out of it . Mainly because there's a lot of different categories, for some you require qualifications (engineering or programming, for example) but others you don't (like article writing, proofreading, etc).
